‘We want to be safe, not brave in the streets- reclaiming our presence in the public space’,
The workshop is about gender space, how fem bodies take space in the public sphere and how we can heal from this gendered violence together. I want to invite the participants to explore beyond the incidents that occurred and occur in our every day lives . The focus will be on sharing knowledge to develop strategies in such a way that we can support each other.
This workshop is focused on women ( for clarification this includes cis women, trans women and intersex women), who are angry!! (Aren’t we all?!) In this world where the position of the women is constantly under thread, gender based violence, oppression, objectification, racism. In this world women have a lot to be angry about. But what can we do with this anger? Through this workshop I want to create space for this anger women face. What are things we notice in our daily life and how can we find solidarity within on another.
In this workshop, mask-making is the central practice for opening up these conversations. The mask that will be made in the workshop will reflect the participant view on their anger : “What does your anger look like in a mask?” Or “What mask would help you to be angry?” By making your mask of anger, I want to open up the space for women to strip off the mask society give them and to put on their own mask of anger, that might help to feel this anger. A second part of the workshop might be photography. Where participants put on their mask, embody the mask, and create a self portrait with their mask. This all with the goal to open up about societal pressure, and to work with (underlaying) female anger.
Disclaimer: this workshop works delicate issues women face. I am not a Art Therapist and want to make clear that this workshop is a artistic search for finding form to anger. I hope to create a safe space where we can do this and where we can find solidarity within one another, but it’s not meant to be diving into therapy aspects.
