Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages / The Darkness Before Your Eyes

To cap off their three-day Fantasy & Dungeon Synth takeover of Utrecht, the organizers of Echoes from the Dungeon Fest II present a special double-feature movie screening at Moira.

The program opens with ‘The Darkness Before Your Eyes’, a short musical dungeon synth and fantasy film by Erang. Deeply personal and steeped in nostalgia, the film offers an intimate glimpse into the background and inspirations of one of the pioneering figures of the genre’s modern revival, weaving together home videos, original animations, film clips, literary excerpts, and, of course, an epic, immersive soundtrack.

This is followed by the 1922 silent horror masterpiece ‘Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages’, presented with an original score by Cold Sanctum. Based in Portland, Oregon, Cold Sanctum has previously composed scores for several silent horror and sci-fi classics, including ‘Metropolis’, ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’, and ‘Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror’. For Häxan, he delivers an ominous, suspense-laden dungeon synth score that perfectly complements the film’s occult themes and haunting visuals.
