Synthese Fundraiser for Lebanon
with Nizar Rohana and Snakeskin
On 23 September, Israel escalated its violent campaign in Lebanon. As a result, more than 2,000 people were killed and 1.2 million people were displaced as of today. Local organizations and communities have put everything aside to provide shelter, food, and address the urgent needs of the displaced people in Lebanon. To support these grassroots initiatives, Synthese is organizing a fundraiser concert at Moira on 1 November. The evening will feature performances by Nizar Rohana and Snakeskin.
With the support of the artists, Moira, Gaudeamus, EKKO, Palestine Café, and LMNOP, we can ensure that all proceeds from the event will go to Tunefork Studios and the Beirut Synthesizer Center to aid the displaced people in Lebanon. The event operates on a pay-what-you-can basis, with donations available in various tiers. Cash donations will also be accepted at the door.

Nizar Rohana
Nizar Rohana is an acclaimed Palestinian Oud player, distinguished for combining virtuosity within fresh contemporary compositions while maintaining the Oud’s idiomatic language.
Born in 1975 in the village of ‘Isifya on Mount Carmel, near Haifa, Rohana grew up in a musical family, with his father playing the Oud at communal celebrations and his mother accompanying him on percussion. He began playing music early, picking up the Oud at age 12. Rohana became a prominent figure in the Palestinian music scene through his various collaborations, including work with percussionist Youssef Hbeisch and singer Sanaa Moussa to explore new interpretations of Palestinian folklore.
Snakeskin
Snakeskin is a Beirut-based duo of visionary electronic dream pop, shapeshifting above ambient and industrial undercurrents. Their music is moody, unsettling, luminous – the culmination of a decade of collaboration and friendship between producer/musician Fadi Tabbal and singer-songwriter Julia Sabra from indie trio Postcards.
On Snakeskin’s sophomore album “They Kept Our Photographs,” out on October 10, 2024 via London’s Mais Um records, the duo build their critically-acclaimed 2022 debut, dialing up the noise while keeping the celestial quality of their soundscapes intact. Lyrically, Sabra mines new depths to deliver her most vivid work yet, turning the violence in their region into visceral poetry, exploring ever darker and deeper currents. Musically, Snakeskin branches into new directions – adding excursions into hyperpop and electronica to the duo’s industrial-drone-ambient palette.
